Michael and Emily both raced in the Derby Festival Soap Box Derby race. Michael ended up placing 5th in the single elimination race. Both kids enjoyed racing - Emily was a little frustrated though, as she got a bye in both races - and thus missed 4 times down the hill (two times for each bye). Here are some pictures from a week and a half ago. I have been busy and tired - so have gotten behind.
As a Christian mother of two wonderful children, I have been called as a mother, wife, teacher, carpool driver, softball/baseball/basektball/soccer/volleyball/soap box derby mom, supporter, lover, reader and many other things. Praise the Lord for these opportunities to serve my Lord and my family.

Get Hoppin'
Today was dress rehearsal for our spring musical. Michael is Dr. Brown and has a solo in the play. They all did well at practice and I hope it goes as well tomorrow evening.
Michael has enjoyed being in the play and he is really hamming up the part :)
took a video of him singing - but for some reason I can't get it uploaded. It sat on loading for over an hour. Will try again later.

go to sleep
Tonight Michael should have been tired - but was so wired it was crazy. He had been up since 3:50 A.M. and I guess was running on adrenalin.
Emily on the other hand asked to go to bed early - wow!! She must be sick!!! Her allergies are bothering her - so she will have to finish up her homework tomorrow morning. She actually went to bed at 8:00 without story from me and without getting up with a "complaint".
Now it is almost 9:00 and I am going to go to bed and do some reading until Doug gets home from church council meeting. Hopefully he will not be home too late - as he has been up since 3:30 A.M. He did get a little nap when he came home from work - but not enough to make up for what he lost.

LSBD on TV
This is just one of the video segments that was on Fox 41. Doug taped them and put them all togeher and came up with 25+ minutes of segments. Wow! I got to see most of them - but not all. It was exciting to watch Michael on TV.

LSBD
LSBD stands for Louisville Soap Box Derby - easier than typing all the words.
Tomorrow morning the kids are going to go take a practice run down the hill they will be racing down. They would like to race against each other and see what happens. Doug is kind of curious about how the two cars would do against one another. They will go from there to church - so I am sure they will be very excited at church. I will miss it as I will be at church, as I play at 11:00 and dont' want to chance being late.
Then on Monday Michael and Doug will be on our local fox news show along with other soap box racers and their parents. The news show runs from 5 - 9 so they have to be downtown at 4:30 AM. Hopefully Michael will make it the rest of the day.
What unique opportunities the LSBD has allowed the kids to have. They have had many great memories, that I would have never dreamed.
Wish both kids luck next Sunday, April 26th as they race.

soap box derby clinic
We left Michael's game and headed down to a church to work on the kids' soap box cars. We had to get them weighted as well as waxed - to protect them in case it rained. It was a good time - and Emily and Michael both did a lot of work.
I had made some fleece covers for their cars and they were a hit amongst some other racers. One mom was very intrigued with them. Emily and Michael both enjoy having covers that match their cars.
The Louisville Soap Box derby has made some cars for special needs kids. There will be an experienced driver as well as a child with special needs in each car. What a fun opportunity. We met one boy with autism who was going to race. He was very excited and was interested in all kinds of aspects of our kids cars.
Michael's 2nd game
Michael playing catcher at his 2nd game.

Michael playing pitcher at his 2nd game.
This is when he hit a double - and scored two runs to put them ahead.
Doug, the other team's coach and the umpire have a meeting before the game.
Michael practicing catching pop flies.
On Friday night Michael played his 1st game. They won 6 - 2. It was an exciting way to start off the season. The boys were ready to play, as their 1st game was rained out.
This morning Michael had his first game right after the parade. That was great - as usually we have to kill time between the parade and when he would play. We lost 10 - 11, but it was a close game - and we were tied quite a bit, as well as ahead a few times. It was a very competitive game -and although they lost - they played well.
They have their third game tomorrow afternoon. It looks like rain - but hopefully they will get the game in anyway. It is the rescheduled game from last Saturday that was rained out. Hate to reschedule a rescheduled game.
Baseball Parade
This morning we started our day with the opening season parade for the little league where Michael plays. It is incredible how they shut down a major road in town for about 45 minutes while this parade travels across town from a Church to the ball fields. The parade route is about 2 miles.
Emily and I camped out to watch the parade at a parking lot across the street from the ball park. It was a fun time for all!

Happy Easter
He is risen! He is risen indeed - Alleluia!
I have heard that saying and response every year of my life - and have been able to recite it since I could talk. Now my kids are responding to their Grandpa, Uncle, and anybody else with the same response. Wow! He is risen! Our Lord and Savior is alive! He came to live and to die for us. Wow! What a reason to live.
I complain sometimes about the difficulties (they have been minor, but seem like mountains at the time) but when I think of the difficulties that Jesus underwent so he could die and rise again for me - it is nothing. Praise the Lord!!!

Easter Egg Hunt
We had our annual Easter Egg hunt at Church this morning. Emily and Michael both enjoyed the festivities - making crafts, eating donuts, having a Bible story lesson, and finding Easter eggs. They got lots of candy as well as some fun prizes. It was an exciting morning.
Emily is growing up though - she took part in her last Easter egg hunt at Church :( My little girl is not so little anymore. That is hard to see. I can remember her 1st Easter, crawling around the choir room (it rained the morning of the easter egg hunt) and she crawled to eggs and picked them up. Although she was really too young to be in the EAster Egg hunt (she was only 10 months old) the Sunday School people insisted she come hunt eggs. :) Wow! Lots has changed since then! Now she is a 10 - almost 11.
Zoo
On Thursday we went to the zoo for a while. We were there about 2 hours. It was very crowded, so we only did about 1/2 of the zoo - but we did have some fun. Enjoying the beautiful spring break weather was a great thing!!!

Emily on TV
Emily was on a local morning show this morning talking about the soap box derby. They promo her in the first few moments of the show, and then she is on about 1/2 way through the show. Doug is bringing home a video clip that hopefully I will be able to post - but this is the whole show.
How exicitng! The promo talked about this cute little red headed girl named Emily. I always thought she was a cute little red head, but never thought I would hear that description on TV.
No this is not April fools!!!
